Dr. Stephen Secor is a professor in the department of biological sciences where he studies the digestive systems of fishes, amphibians and reptiles. In 2016, Secor was awarded a five-year, National Institute of Health Transformative Research Award to study the pancreatic beta cells of four species of snakes. He believes the snakes’ ability to grow and restructure particular organs during the digestion process could impact future treatments for diabetes and other diseases in humans.
