In 2010, the U.S. Army reported the suicide rate among Army personnel was above the civilian rate for the first time since the Vietnam War. The timing, say two University of Alabama School of Social Work members, is not coincidental.

The Student Government Associations at The University of Alabama and Auburn University and the League of Women Voters of Alabama will host gubernatorial debates on the UA and AU campuses this fall.
The first debate will be from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16 in the Moody Music Concert Hall on the UA campus.

The University of Alabama is ranked 34th among public national universities and 79th among all universities, both public and private, according to U.S. News and World Report’s annual rankings for 2011.
Nursing education at The University of Alabama will become a more interactive experience when the new Capstone College of Nursing building opens for classes this week.
Kansas, the rock band known for such hits as “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind,” will perform with The University of Alabama’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Sept. 10, in the Concert Hall of Moody Music Building.
