UA Community Services Center Offers SERVE Better Together Event

The University of Alabama Community Service Center will host the first SERVE Better Together event at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15. The event is receiving support from the Target Foundation the UA Crossroads Community Center. The goal of the event is to create opportunities for improving intercultural relationships within a UA student body that grows more diverse each year and to promote a spirit of unity on campus and in the community.

UA Digital Media Center Grand Opening Set for March 13

The University of Alabama College of Communication and Information Sciences will host a panel on the future of digital media and tours of cutting-edge teaching/professional media laboratories March 13.

Former UA, Penn State President Joab Thomas Dies

Dr. Joab Thomas, president emeritus of both The University of Alabama and The Pennsylvania State University and former chancellor of North Carolina State University, died Monday, March 3 in Tuscaloosa.

In UA’s Tide Talks, Students Address Variety of Issues

Tide Talks, a student-run speaker series at The University of Alabama, will host Tide Talks VI at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Russell Auditorium on campus. Each installment of the Tide Talks series showcases four diverse UA students who are invited to share personal experiences, trials and successes from their time on campus.

UA Fraternity to Host Blood Drive

The Delta Sigma Pi fraternity at The University of Alabama asks students, faculty and the Tuscaloosa community to participate in a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Life South Bloodmobile, which will be parked on the north side of the UA Quad.

UA’s Graduate Parent Support Program Wins Leadership Award

The American Council on Education has named The University of Alabama’s Graduate Parent Support program as the 2014 recipient of its State Network Leadership Award for the Advancement of Women in Higher Education. The award will be presented to Dr. Cori Perdue, director of GPS and UA Graduate School programs, at the Women’s Network Leadership Council reception, part of ACE’s 96th annual meeting in March in San Diego.

Gaskin Named Associate Vice President for Advancement at UA

Keith Gaskin has been named associate vice president for advancement at The University of Alabama. Gaskin comes to UA from Mississippi State University where he has served as senior director of development since 2005.

Students Compete in Miss UA Pageant

A new Miss University of Alabama will be selected at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. Marking 40 years as a preliminary competition for the Miss Alabama and Miss America titles, the 2014 Miss UA pageant will feature 17 students vying for the crown in the categories of private interview, swimsuit-physical fitness, talent, evening wear and on-stage question. The winner will receive numerous gifts, including a full-tuition scholarship and book scholarships for her year of service, and she will also represent UA at the 2014 Miss Alabama Pageant in Birmingham in June.

UA-housed ADAP Appoints New Executive Director

James A. Tucker has been selected as the new executive director of the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program, housed at The University of Alabama.
