Two Teams Compete in Final Round of James P. Hayes Jr. Moral Forum Debate Tournament

Two pairs of University Honors 101 Moral Forum students at The University of Alabama will compete for $10,000 in scholarships in the final round of the ninth annual James P. Hayes Jr. Moral Forum debate tournament at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in UA’s Ferguson Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Establishes Scholarship at UA

The Craig H. Neilsen Foundation has established the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation Scholarship for Students with Spinal Cord Injury at The University of Alabama.

UA Panhellenic Association Offers Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat

The University of Alabama’s Panhellenic Association will host the annual Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27. Children from the Tuscaloosa area ages 12 and younger are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes without masks and visit the lawns of the campus sorority houses on Magnolia and Colonial drives for candy and activities. Tutwiler and Harris residence halls will also host trick-or-treaters.

UA’s Student Judiciary to Offer Coaching Character Discussion

The University of Alabama Student Government Association’s Student Judiciary will host its third annual Coaching Character lecture series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, in the Ferguson Center ballroom on campus.

The University of Alabama Vedic Society will celebrate Diwali — the festival of lights –with music and dance from 6 to8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in 300 Ferguson Center on campus.

Dr. Michael B.A. Oldstone, a National Academy of Sciences member and a University of Alabama visiting professor, will present “Ebola: The Current Plague and Crisis,” Oct. 22 in a talk on the UA campus.

NASCAR’s Integrated Marketing Communications Managing Director to Speak at UA

David Higdon will open students to the world of NASCAR at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in 216 Reese Phifer. The event is free and open to the public. As the integrated marketing communications managing director of NASCAR, Higdon plays a major role in the development of communication strategies and in overseeing communication initiatives across the company. Higdon will discuss the initiatives UA’s Program in Sports Communication has established with NASCAR.

UA to Compete Against Texas A&M in Bone Marrow Registry Drive

The University of Alabama’s Be The Match On Campus student organization will hold a drive to add student names to the bone marrow registry and provide hope for blood cancer patients from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Ferguson Theatre. The drive, which is part of Be The Match’s first Cheek Week challenge, is being held in competition with the Texas A&M University chapter of Be The Match on Campus.

UA Women’s Resource Center to Host Domestic Violence Awareness Month Events

The Women’s Resource Center at The University of Alabama is recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month by hosting a series of events to help eliminate the problem of dating and domestic violence in the Tuscaloosa area.

Structural Expert Named Drummond Chair in Civil Engineering

With more than 30 years of experience in reinforced concrete structures and earthquake engineering, Dr. Michael E. Kreger recently joined the faculty at The University of Alabama as the Garry Neil Drummond Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering.
