UA’s Sorority Recruitment Goes Virtual

The University of Alabama Panhellenic Association’s fall recruitment week will look much different this year without any public activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the recruitment rounds, which begin Saturday, Aug. 8, will be held virtually, with potential new members interacting with current sorority members via Zoom. Those who continue through the first three virtual rounds of recruitment will have the opportunity to meet with members of individual chapters beginning Friday, Aug. 14, where they will be required to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Each meeting room will be sanitized before another group uses the location. Those who are immunocompromised or feel unsafe participating in the in-person round of recruitment will have the option to participate virtually if they so choose.

Sorority houses may open for current members who are participating in recruitment activities to move in with a staggered schedule as early as Saturday, July 27. Individual sororities will determine their move-in dates. Potential new members will move into residence halls during the campus early move-in period August 5 – 7.

Unlike years past, new members will not open their bids in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Instead, bids will be emailed to them on Sunday, Aug. 16. New members will then be able to visit their new chapter house at scheduled staggered times throughout the afternoon. Visitors will not be allowed.
