TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Applying for graduate programs at The University of Alabama will be easier for domestic and international students thanks to a new system for managing admissions.

The new application is responsive and represents a holistic reimagining of the graduate application process that focuses on web accessibility and simplicity. The new system is available for students applying for the Fall 2021 term and later.

“At its core, The University of Alabama Graduate School helps talented graduate students become innovators and leaders in their fields,” says Dr. Susan Carvalho, associate provost and dean of the UA Graduate School. “This is the culminating moment for all the changes we have made over the years. Our new system will make our application process easier and more convenient than ever — for both prospective students and the academic departments that review applications.”

Students will be able to access their application from any device, scan documents with their phones and submit a wider range of file types, including mp4 video. The streamlined application form will include autocomplete fields and form logic, reducing time it takes to submit an application.

The upcoming overhaul isn’t just aimed at students. The review process for academic departments was reimagined as well.

Faculty and admissions specialists will soon be able to view submissions from any device via the enhanced review portal that centralizes and organizes documents. The portal also creates PDFs of prospect submissions, allowing for easier departmental documentation.

Faculty and staff who work with graduate applications can expect an email outlining onboarding and application review training opportunities in the next few weeks.

The new application will go online in August.
