According to Calvin Brown, director of alumni affairs at UA, the National Alumni Association’s executive committee, which consists of volunteer officers from around the nation, made the decision to contribute to the assistance fund.

“The National Alumni Association is here to support our alumni, The University of Alabama and its students,” said Brown. “We thought it was important to step up and aid our students during their time of need, which is extensive at the moment.”

The Tide Together Student Support Fund is an assistance program that allows students the opportunity to access short term financial help. Due to the current public health crisis, many students lack the financial cushion needed for housing, technology, travel and other necessities.

“While I think it’s always important for our alumni to remain engaged with their alma mater, now is a critical time,” said Brown. “We’ve never experienced anything like this. Our alumni must rally around the University and support it with their resources, when possible.”
