UA Offering Free Webinar on Pandemic Stimulus for Small Businesses

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will offer a free webinar Friday for small businesses and  entrepreneurs navigating government stimulus and assistance plans.

Hosted by the Culverhouse LIFT, or Learning Initiative and Financial Training, the COVID-19 Economic Stimulus Webinar for Small Businesses & Entrepreneurs will be at 1 p.m. April 10.

Participants can register online.

The webinar will cover the recent legislative activity designed to help small businesses during the crisis, including The Families First Coronavirus Response Act & The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Topics covered include loan forgiveness through The Paycheck Protection Program, Economic Injury Disaster Loans, payroll tax credits and other provisions that affect both individuals and businesses.

The workshop will be helpful to small businesses that employ fewer than 500 people and self-employed individuals, including businesses organized as sole proprietorships, LLCs, S corporations and independent contractors. The specific impact of the legislation on larger businesses will not be covered.

Presenters include Lisa McKinney, director of the Culverhouse LIFT Program and a certified public accountant with a master’s degree in tax accounting. A lecturer at UA for 17 years, she has also consulted and conducted high-level tax training for accounting firms for 18 years.

Another presenter will be Karen Miller, a CPA with a master’s degree in accounting with tax concentration. An instructor of accounting at UA, she is a retired tax partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Culverhouse LIFT Program is a joint initiative of the Culverhouse College of Business Dean’s Office and The Culverhouse School of Accountancy.
