UA Libraries Employees Release Video Explaining Their Now-Virtual Jobs

The University of Alabama Libraries is celebrating National Library Week this week by releasing videos of faculty and staff talking about how their jobs have changed in compliance with social distancing, and reminding people how they are still of service virtually.

“Traditionally the celebration of National Library Week would involve government advocacy, public events and displays, but while we are waiting for this pandemic to subside, we are still able to provide our stakeholders with the resources and services they need to keep going,” said Michael Pearce, director of strategic engagement for UA Libraries.

“We can’t wait to see students and faculty back on campus, but until then we want folks to know that we can support them at a distance for as long as we have to.”

Pearce said the jobs that the 106 Libraries employees do are important and during this week, as well as every other, they deserve to be honored and highlighted.

National Library Week was created in 1958 by the American Library Association to celebrate the contributions of the nation’s libraries and library workers, and to promote the continued support of libraries.

Students and faculty can chat with a University Libraries professional about any of their services and resources through the chat service, Ask A Librarian: http://ask.lib.ua.edu/
