UADM’s BAMAthon: New Name, Same Fun

With a new name, The University of Alabama Dance Marathon’s largest event of the year still offers UA students the same great opportunity to have fun while supporting an amazing cause.

Large group of students at dance marathonFormerly known as the Main Event, BAMAthon will take place Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Ferguson Center. The 13.1-hour dance marathon allows UA students and Miracle Kids to unite and raise proceeds for Children’s of Alabama, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Birmingham.

To get you ready for BAMAthon, Will Bradley, director of public relations for UADM, and Swathi Prasad, director of BAMAthon, recently offered a few tips.

Bring Your Enthusiasm

You’ll need plenty of enthusiasm and energy to last 13.1 hours. And while you don’t have to dance the entire time, there will be plenty of games and activities to keep you busy throughout the event.

Get Ready to Fundraise

BAMAthon is a fundraising event to support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital at Children’s of Alabama. There will be opportunities to fundraise throughout the day leading up to the final total reveal at 11:06 p.m.

Miracle Kids

UADM’s “Miracle Kids” are those who have been treated at Children’s of Alabama. Many of these Miracle Kids and their families will attend BAMAthon to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with UA students as they raise funds for the hospital that treated them.

Theme Hours

BAMAthon will include several theme hours to keep things fun. Theme hours include color wars, game shows, throwback hits and rave music, among others. Be sure to hit the dance floor and fundraise as much as possible during the fourth quarter hour as UADM competes against Auburn University Dance Marathon. The fourth quarter hour will include appearances by Big Al, the Crimsonettes and some of your favorite UA student-athletes.

You Don’t Have to Stay the Entire Time

While UADM encourages participants to stay throughout the 13.1 hours, organizers are aware that things come up and you may have to leave. If you can’t be there the entire time, please attend the beginning, fourth quarter hour and final total reveal.

Free Food

No need to worry about food to keep you energized. Lunch and dinner will be served to all BAMAthon participants.

Remember the Cause

As you get ready for BAMAthon, remember all of the Miracle Kids and their families that will benefit from your support. Numerous Miracle Kids will attend BAMAthon and provide testimonials throughout the day to keep you inspired.
