Myron Pope named as UA Vice President for Student Life

The University of Alabama has named Myron pope as the new vice president for student life, filling the spot that has been vacant since July. Pope previously served as the chief of strategic engagement and associate director of the center for student affairs research for the University of Oklahoma. He was a walk on member of the 1992 National championship football team.

UA honors Wendell Hudson at Tribute to a Trailblazer Luncheon

Former coaches and players traveled from across the country to Tuscaloosa on Friday as The University of Alabama honored Wendell Hudson at the Tribute to a Trailblazer Luncheon. They talked about his contribution to the sport as a player and a coach. It was 51 years ago when Wendell Hudson arrived here at the University of Alabama as the first African- American scholarship athlete. Today, he’ll leave campus as the first university athlete in any sport to have his number retired.

University of Alabama’s Black History Month spotlights ‘African Americans and the Vote’

This year celebrates the 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment, which gave black men and other disenfranchised Americans the right to vote, and the 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote. In celebration of those anniversaries, and looking toward the 2020 presidential election, the University of Alabama’s Black History Month celebration is themed “African Americans and The Vote.”

Seventy-five years ago, armies from the United States, England and the Soviet Union ended one of the worst nightmares the world has ever known. Nazi concentration camps fell to the liberators as the tidal wave of victory swept away the remains of the Third Reich, but what soldiers found in those camps would be indelibly written upon their minds and upon the consciousness of the entire world. Jacobs is a professor of religious studies and emeritus Aaron Aronov Endowed Chair of Judaic Studies at the University of Alabama. He is also the rabbi at the Temple Emanu-El. At 73 years of age, his memory extends through his father to his grandparents who were both murdered in the Treblinka death camp in 1942.
UADM holds Bamathon to raise money for Children’s of Alabama

Bamathon is a continuous dance marathon that The University of Alabama Dance Marathon program puts together every year in the Ferguson Center Ballroom. “While we are doing so, we are raising money and spreading awareness for what Children’s of Alabama does. It’s a bunch of college students coming together to show these children that people are backing them here at Tuscaloosa and that they aren’t alone going through the fight they are going through.” It’s UADMs largest event of the year where their miracle makers come together to raise proceeds for Alabama s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital in Birmingham while supporting and showing love to miracle kids and their families.

From parallel programming to exascale to quantum computing, the details are here. Linear algebra is a common application in big data and computational science on HPC. These operations are well-optimized when handling regularly shaped matrix inputs with GPUs, but comparatively little literature has discussed irregularly shaped matrix inputs with GPUs. In this paper (written by a team from the University of Alabama, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the University of California, Riverside, and the University of Sydney), the authors propose two matrix-matrix multiplication algorithms for irregularly shaped inputs on GPUs.
