UA TO EXPAND RESEARCH WITH INDUSTRY — A new UA research program is designed to strengthen partnerships with industry while accelerating opportunities for students to work on leading-edge solutions to some of society’s most challenging problems. Known as the Tide Research Partnership, the program encourages companies to sponsor research opportunities at UA while setting costs upfront for exclusive rights to possible intellectual property created by UA researchers. HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES SET — “Return of the Legends” is the theme for UA’s Homecoming celebration Oct. 20-26. Highlights include a pep rally and bonfire at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, on the Quad and the Homecoming Parade at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, before the game.  For more information, contact Richard LeComte in UA communications at 205-348-3782 or richard.lecomte@ua.edu.

EXTERNAL SPONSORED AWARDS SURGE – For the second consecutive year, UA attracted record external funding for research and other sponsored activities, further cementing its role as a comprehensive research university that promotes economic and societal development across the state, nation and globe. For the 2019 fiscal year, UA’s total sponsored awards reached nearly $132.5 million, an increase of more than 33% from the previous year. Total sponsored awards include all competitive external funding for research, service, instruction, fellowships and construction. LOOKING AHEAD

SORORITY ROW TRICK OR TREAT: The event starts at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, and it is for children ages 12 and younger. No masks or realistic looking weapons are permitted, but costumes are encouraged. No pets are allowed, and the area is open to foot traffic only. Service animals are permitted. Children can visit the lawns of sorority houses on Magnolia, Colonial and Judy Bonner drives. Members of the Alabama Panhellenic Association, National Pan-Hellenic Council and the United Greek Council will hand out candy until 8 p.m. or until the goodies run out.
