UA TO HOST FIRST SCHOOL BEHAVIOR SUPPORT CONFERENCE – The Alabama Positive Behavior Support Office, housed in UA’s College of Education, will host its first conference for state educators, social workers, counselors and administrators Friday, July 12, at the Bryant Conference Center. The conference will provide strategies for improving student behavior in K-12 schools with five breakout sessions focused on mental health and classroom management, among other topics. Media are invited to attend the conference; the best opportunities for b-roll and interviews will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., as attendees return for lunch and prepare for the next round of sessions at 1 p.m. The APBSO has supported more than 150 Alabama schools since 2015. STUDENT INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING CAMP — UA’s College of Engineering is hosting the Student Introduction to Engineering, or SITE, camps, which started July 7. The weeklong camps introduce rising high school juniors and seniors to the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Students engage in team exercises, tour an industrial plant and participate in a design competition. SITE Camps are open to the media. FLUTE MAKING AT MOUNDVILLE – UA’s Moundville Archaeological Park will host Saturday in the Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This weekend’s event will include flute making. Each weekend offers a new activity for attending families, including sessions on tools and weapons, flintknapping and pottery firing, among others. The activities are free with paid park admission and are open to the media.
