$1.17 MILLION GRANT WILL SUPPORT UW MOUNTAIN BEE RESEARCH

The National Science Foundation will be providing a $1.17 million grant to a University of Wyoming research project aiming to understand how bumblebees tolerate the cold at various elevations. . . . The NSF will also provide a $1.4 million grant to the University of Alabama to conduct similar studies.
 
U of Alabama launches telehealth network to combat opioid addiction

The Health Resources and Services Administration awarded a $200,000 grant to University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa to develop a telehealth network for opioid abuse patients. The network is geared toward improving prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use disorder and opioid use disorder by employing a “whole-person care” model, which is a concept that coordinates physical health, behavioral health and social services to enhance care outcomes. It will be offered to patients who reside in four Alabama-based counties.

UA Law Professor Joyce Vance comments on Mueller’s testimony

Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller will be testifying before two House Committees on Wednesday, committing to at least five hours of public testimony. Former U.S. Attorney and professor at the University of Alabama School of Law Joyce Vance, former DOJ Chief Spokesman Matt Miller, Democratic Strategist Basil Smikle, and Republican Strategist Matt Gorman join Stephanie Ruhle to discuss what we can expect from Mueller’s testimony.

Shelby County asking residents to fill out new quality of life survey

University of Alabama’s CrossingPoints to launch new certificate program

The University of Alabama will debut an innovative, year-round academic program for individuals with intellectual disabilities beginning in the fall 2019 semester. The CrossingPoints Certificate in Occupational Studies is a three-year, non-degree certificate program that will include six students in each annual cohort. More information, including admissions requirements, costs and course options can be found on the program’s overview page. Applications for fall admission are due July 17.
