Tied with the Tide Activities Grow for Early Move-In

Carnivals, spa nights and glow skating – there are a week’s worth of fun events to welcome University of Alabama students back to on-campus residency.

Tied with the Tide begins Aug. 10 with a mini carnival at Ridgecrest South and includes nine events in nine days across campus and the city of Tuscaloosa.

Tied with the Tide will officially kick off nearly a month’s worth of events organized by University Programs. Other “welcome” events are included in UP’s “Yea, Alabama! Weeks of Welcome” lineup.

  • Mini Carnival: This event will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, in the Ridgecrest South courtyard. The carnival will include cotton candy, candy corn and carnival games.
  • Breakout with UP: At 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, the Ferguson Center Ballroom will be transformed into three breakout rooms for teams of up to eight students to compete at a time.
  • Video Game Night: Go head-up in multiplayer video games in the Ferguson Ballroom from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12.
  • Zumba: On Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m., a free Zumba class will be hosted on the Ferguson Center lawn.
  • Glow in the Dark Skating and Mini Golf: At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Ferguson Ballroom will feature a glow in the dark skating rink and mini golf with glow accessories. Free pizza, snacks and refreshments will be provided.
  • Spa Night at Tut: Students can receive free massages and makeup applications at Tutwiler Residence Hall from 7 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15.
  • Larger Than Life Game Night: On Friday, Aug. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Ferguson Ballroom, students will have the opportunity to participate in a free game night featuring giant chess, life-size pool, and various arcade games.
  • Screen on the Green: On Saturday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m., a blockbuster movie will be shown on the Ferguson Center lawn. Free food, drinks, popcorn, and other giveaways will be provided.
  • Lunch on the River: On Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m., a lunch buffet will be provided at Side by Side in downtown Tuscaloosa. Students can learn more about Greek life and ways to remain stress-free throughout the year. Students must register at upua.tix.com.
