A number of road closings and lane narrowings will begin in May and last through the summer months. The maps below highlight changes for portions of Hackberry Lane, Second Avenue, Fourth Street West, Eighth Street, Colonial Drive and Magnolia Drive.
Hackberry Lane, May 6 – May 24
The northbound lane of Hackberry Lane closest to the UA Aquatic Center will be narrowed to allow for curb and gutter work during renovations. While the lane will not be closed, drivers are asked to use caution in the narrowed area.
Eighth Street, May 6 – July 15
Eighth Street will be closed during this time due to a thermal piping installation project. The intersection of Colonial Drive and Eighth Street is scheduled to be closed from May 6-27, resulting in Colonial Drive being closed from University Boulevard to Eighth Street.
Second Avenue, May 6 – July 31
This closure will run concurrently with the lane closures of Bryant Drive scheduled for April 22 through May 24. Motorists cannot turn onto Second Avenue from Bryant Drive beginning May 6. Second Avenue between Bryant Drive and University Boulevard will close as part of the Capstone Parking Deck construction project. The parking lot on the north side of Alumni Hall and Bryant Conference Center will remain accessible from Ninth Street. Drivers may access Ninth Street from either Fourth Avenue or Fifth Avenue.
Fourth Street West, May 28 – July 31
Once Fourth Street West re-opens, it will become a one-way street running west to east throughout the entire construction duration of Hewson Hall. The parking lot behind the Sigma Nu, Phi Gamma Delta, Beta Theta Pi and Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternities will not be accessible from May 6 to Aug. 16, but will re-open the weekend of UA regular move-in. The circular drive around Presidential Park will close once the construction of Hewson Hall begins.
Magnolia Drive, May 11
Magnolia Drive will close from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, to allow construction crane set-up in the area. The alleyway between Chi Omega and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority houses will be open for vehicles turning onto Magnolia Drive from Bryant Drive.
