Blakeley State Park offers Civil War artillery and wildlife demonstrations this weekend

On Saturday, March 9, Blakeley State Park offers a pair of special programs highlighting the park’s unique cultural and natural heritage … At 10 a.m., the park will dedicate interpretive signage being placed along its waterfront as part of the new Alabama Indigenous Mound Trail. A product of the University of Alabama Museums and The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development, the Trail celebrates the cultural heritage of our region through highlighting over a dozen important archaeological sites.

The wallet as you know it may be dying

Would it be such a disaster if you left that last one behind? … Students at Duke, University of Alabama, University of Oklahoma, Temple, Johns Hopkins and Santa Clara can or will soon be able to use the Wallet app inside iPhones as contactless student IDs. Students to participate in Beyond Bama alternative Spring Break Trips

Beyond Bama is a student-run alternative break program housed within UA’s Center for Service and Leadership that offers sustainable, ethical service trips to students during fall, winter, and spring breaks. This spring, our team will be taking seven domestic trips, and two trips abroad. We will be travelling to Guin, Alabama, Memphis, New Orleans, Houston, Cincinnati, Washington, DC, Orlando, the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica.

Bikeshare program expected to start at UA this spring

A Bikeshare program is expected to begin this spring at the University of AlabamaIt’s meant to offer our students another option for transportation outside of the crimson red bus system. The university is hoping to find a ductless vendor, so they don’t have to add anymore bike racks to campuses.

Bryant Museum reopens after renovations

After being closed in February, the Bryant Museum opened March 1 with a little of the old mixed with the new. The museum, which has operated on the University of Alabama campus since 1988, has taken a step into the modern age of interactive technology. According to Museum Director Ken Gaddy, the age of looking at pictures and reading about them doesn’t really appeal to this generation.

Judges assess student business pitches at EDGE

Kelly Kent, a freshman majoring in business, has had trouble determining the worth of her business ideas or products in the past, but she left Startup Weekend with tips to sharpen her ideas. Techstars Startup Weekend is a way for aspiring entrepreneurs to present their ideas for new products or solutions to a problem to a team of people and get feedback from a panel of 10 expert judges. Judges included entrepreneurs, professors, business advisors and co-founders, among others.

Crimson Kitchen teaches how to make sushi

The Fresh Food Company is hosting the Crimson Kitchen Sushi Cooking Class on March 8. In this three hour class, the Bama Dining chefs will teach students how to roll sushi and season the rice. The cost to attend this cooking class is $40.
