Spilling The Secret To A Mako Shark’s Speed

Two big eyes lock onto the animal it hopes to have in its jaws soon. There is an explosion of movement as the predator pursues their prey, with both performing acrobatic feats that would be graceful were it not for this being a life-or-death battle … this isn’t the ‘secret sauce’ to their speed. Aeronautical engineer Amy Lang of the University of Alabama and her team were interested in seeing just how these sharks pull off being so fast and began looking at their skin.

Influencers, entrepreneurs and other creative minds gathered at the Ferguson Student Center … Among the marchers in attendance, the University of Alabama’s Afro American Gospel Choir made an appearance alongside Rev. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey Proposes Fuel Tax Hike for Infrastructure Plan

Kay Ivey has proposed a 10-cent increase to the state’s fuel tax as part of her Rebuild Alabama Infrastructure Plan to generate money for transportation projects … A 2019 report from the University of Alabama’s Transportation Institute and Transportation Policy Research Center found that cars and trucks put approximately 69 billion miles on the state’s roadways every year.

Carpenter Technology Corp. announced that Viola L. Acoff and John Hart have been appointed to the company’s board of directors. The Carpenter board now consists of 12 members, 11 of whom are independent directors. Dr. Acoff is associate dean for undergraduate and graduate programs at The University of Alabama College of Engineering, a position she has held since 2014.

UA President releases statement concerning Lee County Tornado victims

The University of Alabama’s president released a statement earlier today. Stuart Bell said, “Hearts are heavy” on campus. He went on to say, “The UA family is eager to extend love, care and support during the painful recovery and beyond.”

UA Athletics plans to honor Lee County tornado victims at basketball game

Alabama Athletic Director Greg Bryne sent out this tweet. It says The University of Alabama will do something tomorrow night in Coleman Coliseum to honor the victims of the deadly storm. He hasn’t said what that’s going to be yet.
