Screening of Oscar-Winning Film Highlights Women’s History Month

“Period. End of Sentence,” which recently won the Oscar for best short documentary, will be shown on campus as part of The University of Alabama’s celebration of Women’s History Month. The screening and discussion will be held 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, in 12 Lloyd Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The film, directed by Rayka Zehtabchi, shows the fight Indian women are waging against the stigma of menstruation.

Activities, which include discussion groups, workshops, movies and more, are sponsored by UA’s Women and Gender Resource Center, which is part of the Division of Student Life.

In addition to the documentary viewing, highlights for the month include:
  • Dinner and a Movie with the Student Leadership Council, 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. A fundraising dinner will be at Jason’s Deli, followed by a screening of the film “Anita” at 7 p.m. in the Women and Gender Resource Center.
  • Lunafest Film festival, 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, Bama Theatre. Lunafest, a traveling festival, features films created by and starring women and share female-driven narratives. This event celebrates the successes of women and brings awareness to issues affecting women. The event is also used as a fundraiser for the Women and Gender Resource Center’s services and programming. Tickets are available here.
