UA’s Office of Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services to hold screening of “Beautiful Boy” film

New Freshmen Residence hall to be named after Judge John England, Jr.

Long time Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge John England Junior received a big honor. The University of Alabama‘ s newest residence hall will bear his name. Judge England tells us he is very humbled and grateful to receive this honor. He has been a circuit judge since 1993 in Tuscaloosa. Judge England says to receive this honor during black history month makes it even more special because he is the first African- American to have a dorm on campus named in his honor. The freshman residence hall has 490 beds and is located near the Ferguson Center.

TUSCALOOSA TALKING AUTISM: INFORMATIONAL LUNCH MEETING
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – Feb. 12
In Tuscaloosa, conversations about autism were started at a Lunch and Learn event hosted by the University of Alabama Regional Autism Network. The UA Regional Autism Network held their first Autism 101 event to help increase the Tuscaloosa community’s understanding of the disorder. The workshop taught community members about what the autism spectrum disorder is, its characteristics and how to identify the disorder.

Project seeks to document all species of amphibians threatened with extinction in Brazil

U.S. Navy Band to perform at UA

The Druid City is one of 25 cities in ten states that will host them. The performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. on February 23rd at the Moody Music Building on the University of Alabama campus. All Navy Band performances are free and open to the public.

Research Finds Chess More Beneficial In Lower Grades

The preliminary findings of a multi-year study across the state of Alabama seem to indicate that chess instruction may improve student performance, especially amongst younger students. The study, conducted by researchers at Tennessee Tech and the University of Alabama and in conjunction with the Alabama Chess in Schools, released its findings last month.
