Faculty Accolades for Feb. 27, 2019

Dr. Kimberly Blitch, College of Human Environmental Sciences, was named a 2019 Innovation Scholar in Residence by the College of Continuing Studies. She will be working on a project to enhance distance delivery of a key foundations course in early childhood curriculum planning.

Dr. Julia Boothe, College of Community Health Sciences faculty member and founder of Pickens County Primary Care, medical provider partner for SMART sites in rural Alabama; and Dr. Karl Hamner, director of the Office of Evaluation College of Education, received the Reaching All, Transforming Lives award at the 2018 Annual SMART Symposium in Washington, D.C.

Pamela Bucy Pierson, Law School, is co-author of “Trade Fraud: The Wild, New Frontier of White Collar Crime,19 Oregon Review of International Law 1-91 (2018); and “Thriving in the Legal Profession: Three Pillars of Success,” 2nd ed. (St. Paul, MN: West Academic, 2018).

Jenny E. Carroll, Law School, has published “The Problem with Inference and Juvenile Defendants,” 45 Florida State University Law Review 1-57 (2018).

Jonathan Cumberland, art and art history, had a poster design accepted to the 9th Eco Poster: Climate Changes Exhibition, hosted by the Art Institute of Cieszyn, and exhibited at the Karolinka Cultural Center in Radzionków, Poland. Only 112 posters were selected from 1,400 entries into this international juried exhibition.

Dr. Jennifer Feltman, art and art history, was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the International Center of Medieval Art, The Cloisters.

Jamey Grimes, art and art history, has been named the 2019 South Arts State Fellowship recipient for Alabama. Grimes will receive a State Fellowship award of $5,000 and will be one of nine American visual artists featured in an exhibition at the 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia, South Carolina, this spring.

Jason Guynes, art and art history, had two works accepted to the juried exhibition Valdosta National 2019; two works juried into the 25th Annual El Corazon Exhibition at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas, Texas; and a work accepted in Arts in Harmony 2019: the North Show International Juried Exhibition in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Paul Horwitz, Law School, has published a review essay, “The Constitutional Marriage of Personality and Impersonality: Office, Honor, and Oath” [review of Kozel, Settled Versus Right: A Theory of Precedent], 33 Constitutional Commentary 343-353 (2018).

Dr. April Kendrick, director of Child Development Resources in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, completed the exam to earn Endorsement® as an Early Childhood Mental Health Mentor – Research/Faculty and is the first in the state of Alabama to do so.

Ronald J. Krotoszynski Jr., Law School, has published “Transborder Speech,” 94 Notre Dame Law Review 473-519 (2018).

Dr. Christopher D. Lynn, anthropology, has been named a Leshner Public Engagement Fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the journal Science. 

Michael S. Pardo, Law School, has published “The Paradoxes of Legal Proof: A Critical Guide,” 99 Boston University Law Review 233-290 (2019).

 Bryce Speed, art and art history, won first place for his paintings, “Stars Fell On” and “The Garden,” in the juried exhibition Valdosta National 2019.
