Rosenstein says he will stay on until Robert Mueller submits a report to the Justice Department on the Russian meddling investigation. That means Rosenstein could remain until early march. Astronomers have spotted a second repeating fast radio burst, and it looks a lot like the first. The existence of a second repeating burst suggests there could be many more of the mysterious signals in the cosmos … Astronomers may have already caught a third repeating burst, too. FRB 110523, discovered in 2015, has some similar features to the first known repeating FRB, so it was worth checking to see if it also repeats, said astronomer Allison McCarthy of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

They were questions that took her by surprise because Simone was only 3 years old … Fields, who is the manager of communications at the University of Alabama Law School, did what comes naturally as a journalist — she began writing about the conversation she and her husband, Ken Roberts, had with Simone.

Clear Path will be part of national effort to understand, stop veteran suicide

Clear Path for Veterans, which began as a small effort to help veterans in Central New York, has been selected as one of seven sites to help with a nationwide military veterans suicide prevention study … The veterans services organization was recently selected to be part of Operation Dee Dive, a community-based veteran suicide prevention study led by America’s Warrior Partnership and the University of Alabama. The effort is being funded by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.

The Lonely Giant: Milky Way-Sized Galaxy Lacking Galactic Neighbors

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away, fewer galaxies were born than expected–and that could create new questions for galaxy physics, according to a new University of Michigan study. The study examined the satellite galaxies of Messier 94, or M94, a galaxy similar in size to our Milky Way. Researchers have long known the Milky Way has about 10 smaller, satellite galaxies surrounding it, each with at least a million stars, and up to more than a billion, such as the Magellanic Clouds …Smercina’s co-authors include U-M astronomers Eric Bell and Richard D’Souza … Jeremy Ballin of the University of Alabama.

Hartselle students earning high school, college credit in same classroom

Dual enrollment is opening doors for students at Hartselle High that seemed locked shut a decade ago. School officials said students have access to 22 college classes, and 100 of the 244 seniors will have completed at least one college class when they graduate in May … Hartselle also has dual enrollment agreements with the University of Alabama, the University of North Alabama and Wallace State Community College for its aviation program. Jones said the school system is in the final stages of a dual-enrollment agreement with Jacksonville State University.
