UA students to give back during semester break

Some University of Alabama students want to help folks in other communities before heading home for the holiday. Abby Greenwell is more experienced than the average college student when it comes to an alternative winter break. “I’ve been on two trips in Alabama, a trip to Florida. This will be my third trip internationally.” Friday, she made sure paperwork is in order for her next trip. Saturday, the University of Alabama senior leads a small group of students who’ll bring medical supplies and provide other assistance to people in the Dominican Republic.

Grant to fund University of Alabama study of dementia caregiver support app

The national Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has funded a joint project between the University of Alabama and Florida International University to test the efficacy of a web and mobile application designed for dementia caregivers.

Plenty of seasonal events to choose from this weekend

The holiday season kicks into high gear this weekend in Tuscaloosa with a lighted boat parade, a singalong, a ballet and, of course Charles Dickens … The Alabama Choir School’s winter concert will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the concert hall of the Moody Music Building, 810 Second Ave., on the the University of Alabama campus.

UA Opera Theatre to perform classic tale Sunday

As “The Nutcracker” is to dance troupes, and “A Christmas Carol” to theater companies, so is “Amahl and the Night Visitors” to opera. The holiday standards ring heart-warming notes of tradition and familiarity, the comfort that can be found returning home … The annual performances by UA Opera Theatre, begun in 2016, are free to encourage audiences of all ages, according to Paul Houghtaling, coordinator of voice and director of opera at the University of Alabama School of Music.

UA to hold commencement ceremonies

It’s why universities place the student first in student-athlete. And Saturday’s graduation at the Capstone helps prove it. More than 30 student-athletes are set to graduate at the University of Alabama on Saturday. It’s a proud accomplishment that you can see here from a previous graduation. WBRC spoke to an all-American offensive lineman who is happy to receive his degree in marketing alongside his teammates and some 2,200 other graduates.

Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra presenting holiday concert tonight

Even a season encapsulated as “Malice and Majesty” can be broad enough to encompass Christmas music, according to Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra Music Director Adam Flatt … The community chorus is named for the late Fred Prentice, a UA School of Music professor who founded it, and co-founded another holiday tradition, “Hilaritas.” Last year, the Shelton State Singers joined the mix, led by Director J.F. Mark Brown.

University of Alabama to offer state’s first MFA in dance program

UA student athletes graduate during commencement ceremonies

Congratulations are in order because the University of Alabama held commencement this weekend, and more than 30 UA student athletes across all sports took part, 15 being Alabama football players. Now that those guys have their degrees it’s back to practice for the second day with full focus on preparing for: the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma.

Jalen Hurts is an absolute legend in Tuscaloosa, and the backup Alabama quarterback only added to his story with an incredible come-from-behind win in the SEC Championship Game earlier this month … As you can see below, Hurts graduated from Alabama on Saturday, and the ovation he received from fellow students and fans was incredible.
