Research from CAPS shows more deaths occur on days preceding Thanksgiving

Today and tomorrow, are the worst days to travel before Thanksgiving. But these drivers on I-65, are getting it right. If you have to travel today or tomorrow, it’s safest from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., and 8 p.m. to midnight. New travel numbers, just released by CAPS at the University of AlabamaIn Alabama, in 2017, 1,400 crashes happened the three days leading up to Thanksgiving. Over all, 18 people died statewide, from crashes during thanksgiving week.

Auburn has it fair share of fans on the plains, but not everyone there cheers for the Tigers, especially this time of the year. In fact, we found there are dozens of University of Alabama students who hail from the plains. One of them is Bess Gordon. Although she grew up in Auburn, Bess tells us she’s always been a Bama fan. And, of course, she’ll be pulling for the Tide when they play the Tigers in the Iron Bowl.
 
Alabama, Auburn veterans plan Iron Bowl Ruck March
Tuscaloosa News – Nov. 21
Student veterans from the University of Alabama and Auburn University on Wednesday morning will begin a 150-mile march to raise awareness about the suicide rate among their fellow veterans. The Iron Bowl Ruck March, organized by the Alabama Campus Veterans Association and the Auburn Student Veterans Association, was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.

UA students win Best Overall at VandyHacks

Ben Gitter, a junior majoring in computer science, taught himself to code throughout late middle school and early high school by watching YouTube videos … Gitter and his team, Seismic Data, won Best Overall and Built for Business awards at Vanderbilt’s annual hackathon called VandyHacks, a collegiate hackathon hosted by Vanderbilt University, on Nov. 4.
