Tool helps evaluate students’ palliative care skills

An assistant professor from WSU Vancouver and an assistant professor from University of Alabama received an award at the National League for Nursing Educational Summit in September for a tool they developed to help measure nursing students’ competency for end-of-life care. Andra Davis, an assistant professor at WSU Vancouver, and Megan Lippe, an assistant professor at Alabama, worked together to write the grant which consists of two phases, Davis said.

George Hawley, professor from the University of Alabama, lectures on Trump and the future of conservatism

Less than a week after the 2018 midterm elections in Georgia, University of Alabama professor George Hawley, who also researches elections and political parties, held a lecture Nov. 12 on the future of the conservative movement in America in the Miller Learning Center at the University of Georgia. At the beginning of his lecture, he answered the title of his talk, “Does the conservative movement have a future?”

Friendly competition between Alabama and Auburn to see who donates the most blood

The University of Alabama and Auburn University are competing to see which school can raise the most pints of blood in a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross. Auburn University will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Nov. 13-15 in the Student Center.

UA receives grant to help victims of sexual violence
WTVA-NBC (Tupelo, MS) – Nov 13
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has awarded thousands of dollars in grants to support two organizations that serve victims of domestic violence. Nearly $176,000 dollars in grants also awarded to the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA to prevent sexual violence. It will also provide support for female students at two college campuses in Tuscaloosa. The grant enables the University to continue Project Hope, which helps victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

ALABAMA STUDENTS FIGHT CHILDHOOD HUNGER WITH EXERCISE
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – Nov. 13
An advertising and public relations class hosted its first ever Barre Hunger event on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018. The class worked together to try and meet the needs of as many West Alabama children as possible. Since 2011 this class has partnered up with the Alabama Credit Union to support its Secret Meals for Hungry Children program. The students are grouped together and their goal is to come up with an idea that will help the program raise money.

Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Drive coming to an end

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA students have two days left in the Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive. The competition leads up to the Iron Bowl. Both schools attempt to collect the most canned food items for local food banks.

UA joins nationwide effort to improve college access

The UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA joining a nationwide effort to improve college access. This is the same program several Alabama colleges are already part of, including Auburn university, and Alabama A&M. Alabama is in a different cluster than those schools.

Traveling during Thanksgiving holiday

Anyone hitting the road for the Thanksgiving holiday may want to be extra careful when behind the wheel. A new study from the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA shows more than half of all crashes happen in the three days leading up to Thanksgiving. Data for the study was provided by the Alabama law enforcement agency, which includes state troopers. Researchers found the best day for road travel is Thanksgiving Day.
