As part of The University of Alabama’s International Education Week 2018, the Capstone College of Nursing will show “Ward B12,” a documentary by Becky Beamer, UA MFA graduate. Beamer, an award-winning documentary filmmaker, book artist and Fulbright Fellow, specializes in international humanitarian storytelling that encourages public discourse on personal identity and cultural preservation.

For more than 15 years, Beamer worked on documentary television projects for companies including National Geographic, Smithsonian, Discovery and PBS. She received her BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from UA. She is a visiting assistant professor in the United Arab Emirates at American University of Sharjah of Film and Multimedia.

“I believe in the immortality of art and collaboration,” Beamer said. “Every adventure supplies new inspiration for artistic expression, content and process. With so many stories to tell, there’s no reason to stay in one place.”

UA’s Capstone International Center is sponsoring International Education Week from Sunday, Nov. 11, through Friday, Nov. 16. The purpose of the week is to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide.

The initiative is designed to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States. Capstone International Center initiates, promotes and supports UA’s international efforts on campus, throughout the state and around the world.

“We invite everyone to take advantage of the various internationally focused activities taking place during International Education Week and thank all of our campus partners who help promote international education during the week and throughout the year,” said Dr. Teresa Wise, UA associate provost for international education and global outreach.

The week includes discussions of opportunities for study abroad, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and U.S. State Department careers with Vallera Gibson, a State Department representative. For more information, go to http://international.ua.edu/iew2018/.
