UA to Launch 2018 United Way Campaign Oct. 11

The University of Alabama will officially launch the 2018 UA United Way Campaign Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. in the .525 Club at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Members of the campus community are invited to join Intercollegiate Athletics, hosts of this year’s campaign, for the celebration that sets the tone for the annual fundraiser.

This year’s theme — Champions United: A tradition of caring, serving, and giving — seems fitting not only for this year’s hosts, but also for the campus community as a whole, which has collectively led the SEC in the percentage of employees contributing to local United Way campaigns for many years. This year’s goal is $385,000, a $10,000 increase over the previous year’s goal.

Campaign co-chairs are Marie Robbins, associate athletics director/senior woman administrator; and Jeff Purinton Sr., associate athletics director, external relations. Jessie Gardner, assistant athletic director, student-athlete enhancement, is the loaned executive. Other members of the Intercollegiate Athletics staff serving on the campaign are Lauren George, director of video production; Nathan Sheehan, assistant director, communications; Ryan Majercik, assistant athletics director, marketing; Katie King, director of events and special projects; and Sherry Selby, administrative assistant.

The campus coordinating committee supporting them includes representatives from the Division of Community Affairs, UA Printing, Auxiliary Services, Financial Affairs, Facilities and Strategic Communications, as well as Faculty Senate and the Professional Staff Assembly, the Student Government Association, The SOURCE, The University of Alabama Retirees Association and a host of committee members and department-level coordinators.

The United Way of West Alabama has 26 partner agencies and plays a vitally important role in improving the quality of people’s lives. Partner agencies from Bibb, Fayette, Green, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties provide a variety of education, income-related, health and emergency-response programs to citizens throughout West Alabama.
