Alabama president Stuart Bell highlights accomplishments in fall address

University of Alabama President Stuart Bell praised the achievements of students and employees and the generosity of its donors during an annual fall address to faculty and staff. “While we have had great accomplishments, there is still also much to do. But we all work as one team and we have got a national championship team in this room,” Bell said.

UA professor gets grant to better predict and prepare for droughts

A University of Alabama professor has received a $473,000 grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to help improve drought monitoring and predictions.

University of Alabama: The University of Alabama National Alumni Association has announced the 2018 recipients of the University’s highest honor for excellence in teaching – the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Awards.

Apple Wallet, iPhone can now be used for campus ID

Students at three universities will now be able to use their iPhones and Apple Watches as their campus ID, through the updated Apple Wallet feature of iOS 12. Apple has promised that iOS 12 will support contactless campus ID cards ever since it unveiled the latest version of the mobile operating system.

UA College of Engineering hosts E-Day

UA’s College of Engineering hosted more than 1,000 students today for E-day. The day was dedicated to educating young students about the world of STEM, or science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Participants went on lab tours, experienced hands on projects with the department’s 3-D printer, and met students from different engineering organizations.

Today marked the 16th anniversary for the Safe House Black History Museum in Greensboro. The Safe House Black History Museum in Greensboro celebrated their 16th anniversary. People in the community along with UA’s Afro American Gospel Choir joined in signing, prayer, and reflection of one significant moment in time.

Faculty and former students remember Gay Burke through photography exhibit

Friends, colleagues, and former students gathered to view the work of Gay Burke. Burke was the first female professor to work at the University of Alabama in the Department of Art and Art History. She worked as a professor for over forty years. She passed away last year in May but her work still lives on.

Moundville Native American Festival celebrates heritage

Tents and pavilions sprung up across the grasses of Moundville Archaeological Park last Wednesday. The 30th annual Moundville Native American Festival, which lasted through Saturday, brought members of diverse southeastern communities to the Tuscaloosa area. Many vendors and performers made appearances at the festival, and several nations were represented among the participants, selling their goods to local visitors.

UA homecoming features bonfire, pep rally and parade

The University of Alabama will roll out the crimson carpet for students, alumni and fans during homecoming week. Activities began Sunday with the 30th annual Roll Tide Run and a kickoff party on the lawn outside the Ferguson Center. The week will culminate Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium as UA faces the University of Missouri in the annual homecoming football game.
