‘World’s Greatest’ Typewriter Collection on Exhibit

A unique collection coming to the University of AlabamaIt will connect some of the world’s most famous writers, actors, playwrights, and musicians. “Alabama Types” opens this Friday, and will feature typewriters from the collection of Steve Soboroff.

State’s new mega-hotel ready to weather storms that may come

A $140 million seaside hotel and conference center at Gulf State Park will open Friday to plenty of pageantry and remarks about how it’s a “crown jewel” that will lure more tourists to the Alabama beaches … The new Lodge complex is expected to be certified as “fortified bronze,” which means that its roof will be attached at a “higher standard than what you would find in a normal building code,” said Matt Leavell, director of design at the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development, which has overseen the project for the last five years.

OLLI course focuses on family stories

UA waives application fees during College Application Week

University of Alabama offers free flu shots to students, faculty and staff

A pop up flu shot clinic was held on the University of Alabama Quad Tuesday. The shots were free to students, faculty, staff and their spouses. The University picked up the tab and made them free to those people to prevent the flu from spreading once flu season begins.

UA expert talks about what to do with pumpkins after Halloween

A University of Alabama expert says you can do more with those sloppy pumpkin insides than throw them away. According to Dr. Mary Kay Meyer, pumpkins are very nutritious, a good source of Vitamin C and fiber. They’re high in Vitamin A, as well.

UA public relations students hold ‘Scare Away Hunger’ event

University of Alabama public relations students worked with Alabama credit union and secret meals to put on this event. Tickets purchased were traded for games, crafts, and face painting for children in attendance. All of the proceeds from these tickets will be used to buy food packs. These healthy packs will go to elementary and middle school students who may not have food on the weekends.

A-Team applications to close Thursday

Students interested in joining the A-Team should apply before the deadline Thursday night. Chelsea Ratcliff, assistant director of First Year Experience and Retention Initiatives, said the A-Team is a group of student leaders that serves the Camp 1831 program in August before classes start.

SGA executive officer learns leadership at Mount Vernon

Clay Martinson, SGA vice president of student affairs and a junior majoring in history, was a attendant in Mount Vernon Leadership Fellows program this past summer, a selective six-week program held on the Estate of America’s first president, George Washington.
