Beat Auburn Beat Hunger in lead at halfway point

For some students like McKenzie Walker, a freshman majoring in political science, food insecurity is more personal. From Florence, Alabama, Walker remembers many classmates receiving free lunch through the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program for Alabama. In 2016, 24.5 percent of Florence residents had income below the poverty level, compared to 22.3 percent across the state. Beat Auburn Beat Hunger stuck out to Walker when she visited Get On Board Day, so she got involved in volunteering for it.

UA students use Fall Break to help with Hurricane Michael relief efforts

A group of University of Alabama who decided to spend their fall break in Panama City helping hurricane survivors, are back in the Druid City. While some studs spent their Fall Break at home relaxing or hanging out with friends, these students involved in the organization Beyond Bama spent their break in Panama City Beach, Florida, giving back. Hurricane Michael was the strongest storm in history to hit the Florida panhandle, and to help with the cleanup, these selfless University of Alabama students took it upon themselves to dedicate their much-needed Fall Break to help the state in need. While many hands make the work go faster, these students say the damage from Hurricane Michael is almost overwhelming.

New initiative wants to turn UT student IDs digital

Student IDs are the golden ticket to accessing campus resources, but they are just as forgettable as they are important. Speedway, bathroom sinks and dorm front desks are littered with lost IDs, but a new Student Government initiative that wants to turn IDs digital might help. SG nursing representative Nicole Flanigan said she decided to start an initiative to bring electronic IDs to UT after reading an article about them at Duke University, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Alabama.
