University of Alabama hires vice president for research

The University of Alabama has named an administrator from the University of Georgia as its next vice president for research beginning in January. University of Georgia Vice Provost Russell J. Mumper was announced as the new vice president for research and economic development on Monday following a national search.

UA receives $1 million grant to help state fight opioid problem

Today the University of Alabama is getting a big grant to track that abuse in Alabama. The University of Alabama got approval to begin working on the project earlier this month. UA professor takes students to Panama City

Officials in Bay County added four more fatalities Monday, bringing their total to 19. That’s where Panama City and Mexico beach are located. That’s also where a University of Alabama professor is today. Dr. Chandra Clark has a group of journalism students with her in Panama City. They’re working with professional journalists there, seeing first-hand how a catastrophe is covered.

UA has historic fundraising year

The University of Alabama says it has raised more than $224 million dollars in gifts and pledges during the 2017-2018 school year. The school says in a news release the money came from more than 62,000 donors.

Abortion, Ten Commandments amendments could boost Alabama turnout

There’s sharp disagreement about the merits of Amendment 1 and Amendment 2 on the Alabama ballot for Nov. 6 but at least some consensus that the proposals could draw more voters to the polls … University of Alabama political science Professor Richard Fording said it’s likely the amendments will lead to a small increase in turnout. “Certainly, I would expect that the boost would largely come from evangelical Republicans, but it is also possible that this will also help mobilize some Democrats as well,” Fording said in an email.

Marcus Credé, Iowa State assistant professor of psychology, along with Peter Harms and Karen Landay from the University of Alabama, recently conducted a study to find out if the myth that 20 percent of CEOs are actually psychopaths is true.

Alabama midterms: ‘If there is a chance for a Democrat to take over a Republican seat, this is it’
