Wellness Week 2018 is Sept. 10-13

The fourth annual Wellness Week is here, so take advantage of fun opportunities to be your best, healthiest self.

All events for the week are free, and hosted by the Student Health Center and Pharmacy’s department of health promotion and wellness, working with a variety of partner organizations. Greek points are available for some activities.

MONDAY, SEPT. 10

Traveling Food Demo
11 a.m.–2 p.m., around campus
Find Sheena Gregg,  campus registered dietitian, popping up all over campus to do some healthy eating food demos. Look out for the Health Promotion and Wellness van and the free samples.

Barre Code Tuscaloosa Pop-Up
4–5 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Great Hall
The Barre Code Tuscaloosa is hosting a pop-up barre demo. Bring athletic wear and a water bottle and get ready to feel that thigh burn. Sponsored by the Ferguson Student Center. Worth one Greek point.

 

TUESDAY, SEPT. 11

The ancient mindfulness practice of walking the labyrinth comes into the 21st century with this portable canvas version.

Open Labyrinth Walk
10 a.m.–2 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Great Hall
You might have seen our labyrinth on campus, but haven’t gotten to try it out yet, so now is the time.

Glow Yoga
7:30–8:30 p.m., Canterbury Church Yard
Sponsored by University Recreation, Glow Yoga features upbeat music and a free yoga class. Join us under the lights in your best neon work out gear. Worth one Greek point.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 12

Student Health Fair
10 a.m.–2 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Plaza
About 30 campus and community vendors help students get more involved with the health and wellness resources available to them. Free T-shirts for the first 500 attendees and worth one Greek point.

Campus Dialogues
1–1:50 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Great Hall
Campus Dialogues, presented by Crossroads Community Center, Ferguson Student Center and the Office of Student Involvement, will take on a health and well-being theme for the week. It will provide students with opportunities to discuss where campus or societal barriers to health may exist. Free cookies and tea.

HIV Testing
10 a.m.–2 p.m., 2200D Ferguson Student Center
The Alabama Department of Public Health will provide free and confidential HIV and Hepatitis C testing to UA students. (And it doesn’t hurt!)

THURSDAY, SEPT. 13

Home Run Derby Challenge
11 a.m.–2 p.m., Ferguson Student Center Plaza
Learn more about Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services and their home run services by playing our home run challenge and answering some quiz questions on alcohol and other drugs. Free iced coffee for participants.
