Faculty Accolades for Sept. 24, 2018

Dr. Edward Back, civil, construction and environmental engineering, was selected as an SEC Academic Leadership Development Program fellow for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

Pamela Bucy Pierson, Law School, has coauthored an article, “Trade Fraud: The Wild New Frontier of White Collar Crime,” 19 Oregon Review of International Law 1-91 (2018).

Jonathan Cumberland, art and art history, had a poster design selected for the international juried competition, “Turn A Light On,” in Zapopan, Mexico. His was one of only 53 chosen from among 1,598 entries.

Dr. Lucy Curzon, art and art history, was named to a three-year term as a faculty fellow of the Leadership Board of the College of Arts and Sciences. Curzon will receive a $5,000 stipend each of the three years.     

Wade MacDonald, art and art history, was awarded second place for his mixed media sculpture, “Battleships Adrift on Indifferent Oceans,” at the “Workhouse Clay International Exhibition” at Workhouse Art Center in Lorton, Virginia. He will also be a visiting artist in the craft and material studies department at Virginia Commonwealth University in October.

Sarah Marshall, art and art history, has a solo exhibition, “Untrustworthy Night,” at the 621 Gallery in Tallahassee, Florida. The show features a collection of printed and dyed fabric works in which tones of blue, images of the eye, and collage assembly suggest the nighttime activities of the human imagination.

Dr. David Mothersbaugh, Culverhouse College of Business, was selected as an SEC Academic Leadership Development Program fellow for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

Michael S. Pardo, Law School, has published “Epistemology, Psychology, and Standards of Proof: An Essay on Risinger’s ‘Surprise’ Theory,” 48 Seton Hall Law Review 1039-1055 (2018).

Dr. Robin D. Rogers, research professor, received the Max Bredig Award in Molten Salt and Ionic Liquid Chemistry by the Electromechanical Society. He was presented the award at a symposium as part of the 2018 ECS and SMEQ Joint International Meeting.

Dr. Nicole Ruggiano, School of Social Work, was selected a 2018-2019 American Political Science Association Congressional Fellowship Program Health and Aging Policy Fellow. Ruggiano also co-authored “Rural Caregivers and Technology: What is the Evidence?,” Research in Gerontological Nursing, 11, 216-224 (2018).

Pete Schulte, art and art history, had 16 works in the multigallery, international exhibition, “Art on Paper Amsterdam.” Schulte was one of two featured artists at the Rutger Brandt Gallery, participating in the event.

Dr. Rachel Stephens, art and art history, has been awarded a Tyson Fellowship at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art for fall 2018 and a fellowship at Yale University’s Gilder Lehrman Center for spring 2019.

Craig Wedderspoon, art and art history, was awarded Artisan of the Year by the Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society. His sculpture “Oval” will be part of the Montgomery Museum of Arts’ new John and Joyce Caddell Sculpture Garden, opening Sept. 30.
