U.S. Army lab explores materials at nano-level using 3D atom probe for future military body armor
3D Printing Industry – Aug. 30
Material scientists from the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland, are analyzing metal and ceramic specimens at the atomic level using 3D imaging atom probe technology. This analysis aims to evaluate the effectiveness of materials used for body armor on future army soldiers … In collaboration with Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, the University of Alabama, and Texas A&M University, the army scientists also hope to develop stronger, more heat-resistant materials for future soldiers.

UA and Auburn receive grant from the State of Alabama to study how to make driving safer

The University of Alabama and Auburn University might be rivals on the gridiron, but they are teaming up with a state agency to help Alabamians become safer drivers. Gov. Kay Ivey awarding $2.8 million in grants. The two universities along with the Alabama department of public health are gathering traffic safety data and converting it into messages.

Depressed children six times more likely to have skill deficits, study finds

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America reports that as many as 2 to 3 percent of children ages 6-12 might have major depressive disorder … “Using latent profile and transition analyses to understand patterns of informant ratings of child depressive symptoms,” was published in the Journal of School Psychology. Co-authors include Daniel Cohen, assistant professor at the University of Alabama.

Review: UA play ties brings past to present day

Folks can submit their ideas into the hub on how to better their community for a chance to win $30,000.
