Freshmen at the University of Alabama had the chance to get acquainted with their new home today through a day of service. Students from the Honors College and camp 1831 went to local elementary and middle schools to lend a helping hand.

UA Astronomy Department to hold viewing of Mars and other planets

Happening tonight, the University of Alabama is taking advantage of this summer’s close approach of Mars. The physics and astronomy department is hosting a telescopic viewing session at the Galilee Hall observatory. It can also provide good views of Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn.
 
‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Had a Surprisingly Frank Conversation About Race Last Night

Colton, Tia, Becca, Chris, Krystal, sure, right, whatever. It’s a mess, and it’s all going down on Bachelor in Paradise. But a conversation between San Francisco programmer John Graham and newcomer Jubilee Sharpe was easily the most interesting thing that’s happened in this season so far … “[Lindsay] was recognizable to white women who related to her class experience and to black women who recognized her cultural cues,” Robin M. Boylorn, an associate professor at the University of Alabama, wrote in Slate.

A public charter school in the rural town of Livingston, Alabama, opened its doors on Monday and made history: It was Sumter County’s first integrated school, AL.com reported. The need for young athletes to stay hydrated

Keep the athletes fully hydrated. That’s the message the director of athletic training at the University of Alabama shared with me about protecting athletes practicing and playing in this heat. Many of our local football teams are dealing with this heat right now. Professor Deidre Leaver-Dunn says they should be taking fluids before, during and after they work out.
