Computer science programs growing in AL

Computer science can affect many parts of your life, including the app on your phone or the car you drive. Gov. Kay Ivey is advocating for more computer science classes in Alabama schools … Dr. Jeff Gray is a professor at the University of Alabama and the Co-Chair of Gov. Ivey’s Computer Science Advisory Council. He gives a rough estimate of 4,000 computer science related jobs created in Alabama in the next five years.

Unprecedented number of military scholarships granted to families in need

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation will give $7.7 million in academic scholarships this upcoming school year, keeping its promise that the children of service members wishing to pursue undergraduate education will always be able to do so … Golczynski’s son Christian is a junior studying Management Information Systems at the University of Alabama with the help of this scholarship. His father tragically lost his life at Fallujah, Iraq, in 2007 … Now, 11 years out from that night, Heather noted that Christian is “thriving” at the University of Alabama.

Million Dollar Band posts chilling video of their ‘most treasured tradition’

The University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band on Monday posted a chilling rendition of the university’s alma mater. In the post, the band calls it, “our most treasured tradition” and explained that the group’s returning members circle their new members while singing.

UA students will be able to register student IDs on Apple Watch

Starting in September, University of Alabama students will be able to register their student ID cards under apple watch. That means a simple swipe of the wrist will give them access to buildings on campus and pay for items they can put on that particular card.

Former University president receives honor from OLLI and TUARA

One former UA president returned to campus today, but it wasn’t only for a friendly visit. Former UA president, Judy Bonner received a special honor from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, OLLI, and the University of Alabama Retirees Association, TUARA.

UA students take part in Outdoor Actions

University of Alabama students don’t start classes until next week, but some already are working hard! Dozens of freshmen participated in the university’s annual clean-up day at Lake Lurleen State Park in Coker. They demolished some boat docks and pavilions and rebuilt new structures.

UA introduces new real-time interactive campus map
ABC 33/40 (Birmingham) – Aug. 13
The University of Alabama is rolling out a new real-time interactive campus map. Students and visitors will be able to navigate building information, live bus routes, parking lots, housing, blue phones, and storm shelters much more as well. The current features of the new map are part of Phase 1. Phase 2 will add functionality like wayfinding and additional map orientations and more detailed information on campus programs like athletics.

New layer of protection on Alabama campus

A new layer of protection from severe storms at the University of Alabama as student population continues to grow. University of Alabama built a brand new freshmen dorm to help with the growing student body. The new hall houses about 500 students above ground, and 1,600 in the basement.

UAPD’s Lip Sync Challenge video is released

After two weeks of waiting, the official video for the University of Alabama Police Department’s lip sync challenge has been released …The police department did a really great job in this competition. UAPD’s big wheels were turning down the Walk of Champions along with Big Al and a few of the university cheerleaders and, of course, Bama fans!
