CrimsonRide Announces Changes to 348-RIDE

To provide more efficient service, University of Alabama Transportation Services is implementing changes to 348-RIDE for the 2018-2019 academic year.

“We received feedback from our riders requesting reduced wait times and faster service to the rider’s destination,” said James Knickrehm, associate director of UA Transportation Services. “From that feedback, we have updated and enhanced 348-RIDE for this academic year.”

The changes, now in effect, include the addition of four new evening and weekend bus routes. The new routes allow riders to access campus facilities that stay open late such as the Student Recreation Center and libraries, residence halls and other portions of campus from 9 p.m. – 3 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. – 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Riders should see a bus about every 10-12 minutes during the evening hours,” Knickrehm said.

Riders will also be able to see buses in real time by clicking here or by using the Transloc app. A map of the new routes can be found here.

Off-Campus Riders

348-RIDE vans will continue to be available to pick up riders from nearby residences and bring them to campus.

The 348-RIDE service area includes neighborhoods between Queen City Avenue to the west, 15th Street to the south, McFarland Boulevard to the east, and Jack Warner Parkway to the north. Click here for a map of the off-campus area serviced by 348-RIDE.

“Unlike in the past, the vans will now take riders from off-campus residences to the Transit Hub,” Knickrehm said. “From the Transit Hub, riders will transfer to one of the new bus routes to get to their destination.”

Off-campus riders can request a ride by calling 205-348-RIDE or online by going to 348-RIDE using a laptop or internet-connected phone or by using the 348-RIDE app from 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday.

On-campus Riders

Riders who are on campus and need to be transported to an off-campus residence in the service area between 9 p.m. – 3 a.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, should take a bus to the Transit Hub and then visit the walk-up 348-RIDE service window.

“Once a student visits the walk-up window, a 348-RIDE van will be dispatched to take that student to their off-campus residential destination,” Knickrehm said.

On-campus riders needing to get to other destinations on campus not serviced by one of the new bus routes should visit the walk-up service window and request a van to take them where they need to go.

Between 3 a.m. – 7 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 3 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, buses or vans will run a limited fixed route servicing all campus residential areas. Riders should use these buses or vans to move between residence halls. To get to locations not accessible by the fixed route during this time frame, riders should visit the walk-up service window at the Transit Hub and request a van to take them to their destination.

“We want students to know that if they need a ride to any place on campus, we will get them there,” Knickrehm said.
