Change to Employee Assistance Program Coming Aug. 1

The University’s Employee Assistance Program offers eligible employees and dependents up to five free confidential in-person counseling sessions per issue per year to address pressures associated with marital/family issues, grief and loss, interpersonal relationships, etc.

DCH Health System, which administers the EAP program, recently notified UA it was transferring ownership of its EAP services to another entity. This change of ownership prompted the University to evaluate available EAP options.

Effective Aug. 1, American Behavioral will be delivering EAP services to eligible employees and family members.

Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, American Behavioral is a full-service behavioral health care organization with a national network of licensed and credentialed providers in 38 specialties. Employees residing in Tuscaloosa will have more EAP counselors available to them. Additionally, employees and dependents located outside of Tuscaloosa or out-of-state will now have access to EAP services.

American Behavioral will also offer employees unlimited, scheduled telephonic counseling as well as coaching sessions for work-life issues. Employees can also use the robust American Behavioral website, which offers webinars and additional resources on topics like work-life, elder care, legal and financial assistance.
