Faculty Accolades for June 18, 2018

Michael Brooks, associate director of the Alabama International Trade Center, has been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to the Alabama District Export Council, a private, non-profit organization of international business people who provide guidance and assistance on international markets to local businesses in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service office.

Alan L. Durham, Law School, published “Lost Art and the Public Domain,” 49 Arizona State Law Journal 1257-1300 (2017).

Mirit Eyal-Cohen, Law School, published “The Cost of Inexperience,” 69 Alabama Law Review 859-912 (2018).

Ronald J. Krotoszynski Jr., Law School, has published “Our Shrinking First Amendment: On the Growing Problem of Reduced Access to Public Property for Speech Activity and Some Suggestions for a Better Way Forward,” 78 Ohio State Law Journal 779-817 (2017).

Dr. Drake Lavender, assistant professor in the department of family, internal, and rural medicine, was re-elected to a three-year term on the Council on Medical Education for the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He was also elected chair of the council for 2018-19.

Two faculty members in the College of Community Health Sciences completed the 2018 Emerging Leaders Class of the Society of Teachers in Family Medicine: Dr. Ed Geno, assistant professor in the department of family, internal and rural medicine, and Dr. Cecil Robinson, associate professor and director of Learning Resources and Evaluation for the College. The competitive STFM fellowship provides training and support to new faculty and those transitioning to leadership roles.

Dr. Laci Watkins’ publication, “Evidence-Based Social Communication Interventions for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder” was selected for Springer Nature’s Change the World initiative. This initiative invites the editors-in-chief of Springer Nature journals across disciplines to select the scientific findings published in 2017 that they believe could have an impact on society’s most pressing problems. Watkins is an assistant professor in the department of special education and multiple abilities.
