New Action Card Required for Faculty and Staff

New Action Card Required for Faculty and Staff

The Action Card office is announcing the availability of a new Action Card for faculty and staff. The new Action Card will provide enhanced credential technology and security options.

For faculty and staff, this means getting a new card with a recent photo is required.

Why the change?

Numerous Action Card and departmental readers across campus are being updated this summer to accept the new “tap” transaction technology, which includes control for facility and door access. To ensure facility and door access during this transition period, it is important faculty and staff receive the new Action Card in a timely manner. The building access conversion schedule is posted; dates are subject to change.

Also, technology changes on the Action Card include removing the campuswide number from the magnetic stripe encoding and replacing it with a unique 16-digit card number for each Action Card issued; moving to a near-field communication, also known as an NFC, chip embedded in the card that uses an encryption key component; and removing a printed chip serial number from the back of the card.
