Accolades for Feb. 26, 2018

Alfred L. Brophy, Law School, has published “Black Power in a Prison Library,” 61 Howard Law Journal 1-34 (2017).

Dr. Kristi Crowe-White, human nutrition, was named the Samford University School of Public Health 2017 Alumni of the Year for contributions to the field of nutrition and dietetics.

Richard Delgado, Law School, has published “Alternative Dispute Resolution: A Critical Reconsideration,” 70 SMU Law Review 595-608 (2017).

Shahar Dillbary, Law School, has published “Contracting for Torts,” 52 Wake Forest Law Review 1057-1109 (2017).

Alan Durham, Law School, has published “Lost Art and the Public Domain,” 49 Arizona State Law Journal 1257-1300 (2017).

Michael Innis-Jiménez, American Studies, and Jenny Carroll, Law School, are serving on the Alabama State Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Innis-Jiménez is a member, and Carroll is committee president. The committee is holding a series of public panel discussions on access to voting in Alabama. The committee seeks to examine barriers to voting which may have a discriminatory impact on voters based on race, color, disability status, national origin and/or the administration of justice.

Ronald J. Krotoszynski Jr., Law School, has published an op-ed article titled “Yes, the G.O.P. Can Block Roy Moore in the New York Times, Nov. 12, 2017. He has also published “Our Shrinking First Amendment: On the Growing Problem of Reduced Public Access to Public Property for Speech Activity and Some Suggestions for a Better Way Forward,” 78 Ohio State Law Journal 779-817 (2017).

Dr. Semih Olcmen, aerospace engineering and mechanics, was appointed UA campus director of the Alabama Space Grant Consortium. The ASGC is a member of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, administered by NASA. The program’s mission is to educate the public about the value of aerospace technology and space exploration as well as enable student participation in these fields of study.

Michael S. Pardo, Law School, has published “Some Remarks on the Importance of Evidence Outside of Trials,” 36 The Review of Litigation 443-467 (2016).

Pamela Bucy Pierson, Law School, is co-author of “Stress Hardiness and Lawyers,” 42 Journal of the Legal Profession 1-67 (2017).

Meredith M. Render, Law School, has published “The Concept of Property” in 78 University of Pittsburgh Law Review, 437-492 (2017).

Dr. Garry Warren, metallurgical and materials engineering emeritus professor, was chosen as the inaugural recipient of the Julia and Johannes Weertman Educator Award by The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society. The award recognizes excellence in metallurgical and materials engineering education. His research interests include amine-quinone polymers and electrochemical and corrosion research involving recording media, permanent magnets and other materials.
