Alabama Power will be removing overhead power lines along the north side of University Boulevard between Hackberry Lane and Second Avenue starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9. This work will last approximately four hours. The westbound lane of University Boulevard and the parallel sidewalk running east/west on the north side will be closed to allow for this work. UA Transportation will be setting up a digital message board in advance of the east of the closure.
In the above illustration, two locations in yellow show where overhead power lines that cross University Boulevard are to be removed. At these two locations, the east bound traffic will be momentarily stopped to allow for this part of the work.
Traffic Detour:
- The majority of traffic will be detoured onto Second Avenue toward Bryant Drive.
- Access onto Fourth Street will be allowed for those who wish to travel on Fourth Street to Devotie Drive to Hackberry Lane.
