A unified Iron Bowl: Athletes with disabilities play in rivalry flag football game
Tuscaloosa News – Nov. 21
The University of Alabama Special Olympics College Unified flag football team lost to Auburn on Sunday during the contest in which young adults with developmental disabilities partner with UA students on the field. Auburn won 38-26 in the annual “Unified Iron Bowl.” UA’s second-half rally came up short. Alabama leads the all-time series, 4-2. UA Special Olympics College teams were founded in 2012. More than 20 UA students partner with 20 Special Olympics athletes from the Tuscaloosa area to compete side-by-side in flag football and basketball games. “I did not expect this,” said athlete Kemondre Taylor. “Last year, we were 2-0, but this year was tough because everyone was out to get us. There was good competition.”
 
Students hold annual fashion show for charity
Crimson White – Nov. 20
Once a year,  the Student Merchandising and Design Association and The College of Human Environmental Sciences Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design present their annual Fashion for Life show. Fashion for Life is a runway show where senior apparel design students present their final collections. On Sunday, 14 seniors showed off four years of education that were put into three to five outfits that graced the runway in the Ferguson Student Center Ballroom. Fashion for Life deals with more than just fashion. It started as a fundraiser for West Alabama Aids Outreach for the first two years, but now, Brian Taylor, instructor of the class involved with the fashion show, let’s the students nominate and vote on the charity they support each year.

Crimson White Newspaper named as the nation’s top college newspaper
Fox 6 (Birmingham) – Nov. 17
The UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA’S crimson white newspaper is named as the nation’s top college newspaper. The pinnacle awards by the college media association honor college media across the country. The crimson white publishes twice a week and employs more than 75 students.

UA International Students share their cultures with students at University Place Middle School
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – Nov. 17
International students at the UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA visited university place middle school this morning to teach them about different cultures. Students from the English Language Institute brought along lessons about their languages, traditional clothes, arts and crafts, and also demonstrated traditional dances from some of their countries.

UA wins Beat Auburn, Beat Hunger Food Drive

Auburn and Alabama are both looking for a win in this weekend’s Iron Bowl. Auburn, however, has already fallen to the crimson tide in a different rivalry. The UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA has won this year’s “hunger food drive. Every year, the schools compete with each other to see who can collect the most pounds of food to be donated ahead of the iron bowl football game. Bama this year, collected more than 260-thousand pounds of food.

High School students get to work with UA researchers

UA Researcher on gun ownership in America

The idea was that we could use statistics to understand the problem. Lankford wanted to find out if its true that the U.S. has more mass shootings per capita than any other country, and if it is true, then why.

UA Crowdfunding raises money Million Dollar Band

A new way to give to UA. The UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA launches a new online fundraising platform for support of the Capstone. The university is implementing a new way to fundraise, it is called crowdfunding.

O’Neill Youth Participate In Piano Festival
Holt County (Nebraska) Independent – Nov. 21
Nathaniel and Christopher Jennings of O’Neill were invited to participate in the 10th Annual Albion College International Piano Festival from Nov. 2-5 in Albion, MI. . . . Students traveled from all over the Great Lakes states, Nebraska and Albion’s sister city of Noisy-le-Roi, France, to participate. This year’s festival clinicians and guest artists were Dr. Kevin Chance, assistant professor of piano at the University of Alabama; Dr. Bradford Gowen, associate professor of piano at the University of Maryland College Park; and Dr. Diane Petrella, professor of piano and Piano Pedagogy at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Bradley Clark of Gilbertown is one of close to 300 University of Alabama students receiving a hands-on educational experience at more than 60 companies and organizations through UA’s Cooperative Education Program this fall. . . . Three area residents were among 1,300 students awarded degrees during summer commencement exercises at the University of Alabama.
