Guidance on Responding to UA Legal and Media Matters

The University of Alabama is a complex organization, and University employees may receive requests for information or interviews related to legal issues or sensitive media matters. University employees contacted by investigators, reporters, law enforcement or others seeking University information are not expected to handle these matters alone. Campus resources and staff are designated to provide appropriate responses in order to protect all students, employees and the University while also cooperating with any government inquiries or investigations. Below is a list of people to assist with these matters.

Legal Matters

If you are approached by anyone conducting an investigation or serving a University-related subpoena or search warrant, please immediately contact the Office of Counsel, (205) 348-5490.

Media

Forward media inquiries and requests to Taylor Bryant in Strategic Communications, (205) 348-8718; taylor.bryant@ua.edu.

Open Records Request

Forward all requests for University documents or information to Lindsey Hughey in Strategic Communications, (205) 348-6274, lindsey.hughey@ua.edu. Additional information regarding open records can be found on the University’s open records website.

Have you been contacted or received something and are not sure what to do?
