Rob Alley, jazz musician, member of the Voodoo Saints and instructor in the Honors College, has had two albums released recently: Scalici/Alley Project (eponymous album) and The Rail (artist) – “Quick, The Lights” (album).
Tabitha Bostick, senior account executive at WVUA-23, was awarded the 2017 AAF District 7 Governor’s Award at the American Advertising Federation District 7 Leadership Conference. The Governor’s Award, also known as the “Volunteer of the Year” award, honors one District 7 member annually who has gone above and beyond in service to the American Advertising Federation community.
Jenny Carroll, Law School, published “Bathroom Laws as Status Crimes,” 86 Fordham Law Review 1-46 (2017).
Drs. Kristi Crowe-White and Seung Eun Jung, College of Human Environmental Sciences, received funding from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the McCormick Science Institute to conduct a research study titled “Modulating Oxidative Stress through Antioxidant-Infused Spice Chews: the MOSAIC Study.” The McCormick Spice Institute Research Award was presented at the October 2017 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Chicago, Illinois.
Rachel Dobson, art and art history, published “A Cloud of Witnesses: Family and Community in Early Twentieth Century Wiregrass Pentecostal Evangelism” in Alabama Review, vol. 70 no. 1, 2017, pp. 50-82.
Dr. Jennifer Feltman, art and art history, published the chapter, “Imagining the Sorrows of Death and the Pains of Hell in the Hours of Catherine of Cleves,” in Binding the Absent Body in Medieval and Modern Art: Abject, Virtual, and Alternate Bodies, Emily Kelley and Elizabeth Richards Rivenbark, editors. New York: Routledge, 2017. Feltman was also selected as 2017-2018 SEC Faculty Travel Grant recipient.
Charles W. Gamble, Law School, published “Textbook Law v. The Law of Practice: Counterfeit Rules of Evidence,” 78 Alabama Lawyer 341-345 (2017).
Dr. Adam Knowlden, health sciences, won the 2017 HES Leadership Board Excellence in Scholarly Research Award.
Wade MacDonald, art and art history, received the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts 2018 Emerging Artist Award. In addition, an exhibition titled Parallel/Collision that MacDonald proposed and is co-organizing has been accepted for this year’s NCECA conference.
Laurl Self, clothing, textiles and interior design, won a Practitioner’s Award for Creative Endeavors from the American Society for Interior Design.
Bryce Speed, art and art history, will create a site-specific wall painting in the group exhibition, Fertile, for the Satellite Space: Prospect 4: TEN Gallery in New Orleans in December. Currently his work is in PaperWest: National Works on Paper Juried Exhibition, Gittins Gallery, Salt Lake City, juried by Willie Cole; and in the exhibition, Home, at Rockland Center for the Arts, West Nyack, New York.
Jenny Tucker, art and art history, was named a 2017 Innovation Mentor by the UA College of Continuing Studies, in part for the ARTmap program, as well as for another teaching innovation, her series of “Did You Know?” videos.
