Charges may pressure ex-Trump manager to cooperate – lawyers

The charges announced on Monday against Paul Manafort, a former campaign manager to President Donald Trump, as part of a U.S. probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, include money laundering as well as the lesser-known offence of conspiracy against the United States … Joyce Vance, a former federal prosecutor who is now a professor at the University of Alabama School of Law, said the indictment sends a message to Manafort that “he needs to cooperate and plead guilty.” “The indictment of Gates may also send a message to Manafort, because even if Manafort doesn’t cooperate, Gates probably will,” she said.

University of Alabama posts record-breaking fundraising year

Donations surged for the University of Alabama in the most recent fiscal year, breaking a record. The school is reporting 58,000 donors across all departments, including athletics, gave more than $120 million in the 2016-2017 fiscal year. The new fundraising record, which occurred during Stuart Bell’s second full year as the university’s president, eclipses the previous mark of $116.4 million set in 2012, as well as the university’s average of $102 million for the previous five fiscal years by 18 percent.

Alabama DOT, University Partnership to Pave the Way for AVs

The next evolution of driving is coming to Tuscaloosa, Ala. In a partnership with the Alabama Department of Transportation, the University of Alabama is funding the installation of technology that will, ultimately, pave the way for automated driving. Bharat Balasubramanian, executive director of The University of Alabama’s Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies and a former head of research and development for the German automotive corporation Daimler AG, said it could be two to four more decades before drivers can relinquish the steering wheel.

UA political science professor comments on Manafort indictment

The initial charges against Manafort and Gates do not cover any activities related to the 2016 campaign but it’s possible additional charges could come later. Former special assistant U.S. Attorney and UA assistant professor of political science Allen Linken thinks that this may just be the tip of the iceberg.
