UA to partner with two cities to create Tech Villages

The University of Alabama is partnering up with two cities to create tech hubs. The technology villages is going to build and run the focus centers in Cullman and Fairhope. UA’s president says one of the primary goals is to increase economic development for those parts of our state.

In DeKalb County, Donald Trump got 83.5 percent of the votes in the presidential election last November. This November, the senior citizens center in Fyffe is preparing to host the “biggest Democratic event we’ve ever had.” … Said William Stewart, a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Alabama and a longtime observer of state politics: “I believe the candidacy of Doug Jones has helped the Alabama Democratic Party, although not greatly.”

UA helps Rock Quarry Elementary School with Rock Fest

Another local school that was full of parents today was Rock Quarry Elementary School. The school was celebrating Rock Fest, an annual science festival. This year’s theme was plants and how to grow them. Each class toured several science stations staffed by plant experts and volunteers with the help of The University of Alabama.

Lecture sheds light on inequality in American school system

As the time of the lecture started to near, 100 plus attendee’s filed into the Woodis-McDonald Auditorium on Thursday night. Gathering for the Julie C. Laible Memorial Lecture Series on anti-racist scholarship, education, and social activism, those in attendance came to hear of Annette Lareau’s findings on how class and race can affect the easiness of schooling throughout a person’s life.

Lecture explores gender discrimination, harassment at work, school

Students, many members of the faculty and others from various social organizations gathered in Gorgas 205 on Thursday. They came to hear Ellen Mayock talk about gender equality and sexual harassment in workplaces and on college campuses. Mayock, Ernest Williams II Professor of Spanish at Washington and Lee University, is the author of the novel Gender Shrapnel in the Academic Workplace, which her lecture is named after.

Trick-or-Treat on UA Sorority Row set for Oct. 24

The Alabama Panhellenic Association will host its annual Trick-or-Treat on Sorority Row for the Tuscaloosa community at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, on The University of Alabama campus. The event continues until candy runs out or 8 p.m.
