Work-Life and Wellness Expo Debuts Oct. 4

Who: UA employees and their spouses, and UA retirees
What: A free event that builds on the legacy of the Employee Health Fair
When: Wednesday, Oct. 4, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Coleman Coliseum
Why: To promote work-life balance and a healthy life for all UA employees and retirees

WellBAMA health screenings are available for active, benefits-eligible employees.

To make the most of your time at the Expo, plan your visit. Use the lists here to help you select the sessions and screenings that are right for you, and the vendors you want to meet. The Expo map makes it easier for you to choose the most efficient route through the Coliseum.

Bring your Action Card or other photo ID, such as an Alabama driver’s license, for admittance to the Expo. You will be asked to swipe your Act Card at the entrance table. If you participate in a free health screening, then also bring your BlueCross and BlueShield insurance card.

Hands on Health Sessions

These free sessions all qualify as WellBAMA group sessions. Each 20- to 30-minute event will be offered in two back-to-back sessions in the C.M. Newton room.

  • Gentle yoga, 8-9 a.m.
  • Hazardous house, 9-10 a.m.
  • Nordic walking, 10-11 a.m.
  • Weather safety, 11 a.m.-noon
  • Child passenger car safety, noon-1 p.m.

Free Health Screenings

Make UA a No Flu Zone.

You will receive one raffle-prize ticket for each of the following health screenings you complete. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the Expo. Spouses are encouraged to participate in the screenings. In order to receive the shingles or pneumonia vaccine, spouses must be covered under the UA employee health plan.

  • Flu shot
  • Blood pressure check
  • Hearing test
  • Shingles or pneumonia vaccine
  • Vision screening
  • EKG/ECG

A WellBAMA health screening is also offered for active, benefits-eligible employees. Pre-register for the Oct. 4 screening at Coleman Coliseum. By attending one Hands on Health session and getting your WellBAMA screening the same day, you will be two-thirds of the way to earning your WellBAMA Rewards.

Food Options

Free food samples and refreshments will be offered to all participants who present a coupon to vendors located in the rear concession windows at Coleman. Coupons will include the following, with a limit of one per participant:

  • Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Sprite or Dasani bottled water
  • Schlotsky’s Deli, one slice of veggie or pepperoni pizza
  • Frutta Bowls, one sample bowl with granola and fruit
  • Newk’s, one cup of chicken salad or pimento cheese with crackers
  • Zoe’s Kitchen, one sample chicken, steak or spinach rollup
