UA to designate parking space for Purple Heart recipients
NBC 13 (Birmingham) – Aug. 3
A special recognition for Purple Heart recipients visiting The University of Alabama. The University announced it’s designating a parking space in the Ferguson Center parking lot for Veteran’s who received a purple heart. The award is given to men or women either wounded or killed in combat. The school will unveil the space next Wednesday.

UA to test Shotspotter technology
ABC 33/40 (Birmingham) – Aug. 2
University of Alabama officials announced plans for the Shotspotter technology to be tested on Monday. The University is about to begin using the same technology already in use in the city of Birmingham to notify police when and where shots have been fired. The company’s website says the technology is an effort to get a faster response to a gun incident. UA’s testing Monday will involve an officer firing multiple rounds into a bullet catcher at two different locations on campus.

Summer commencement to be held August 5th
Crimson White – Aug. 3
The University of Alabama will hold its summer commencement exercise August 5 at Coleman Coliseum. Over 750 undergraduates and graduate students representing their various schools and departments will be a part of the ceremony. Commencement will begin at 9 a.m and the University anticipates awarding 1,442 degrees.

Nick’s Kids Luncheon
WVUA (Tuscaloosa) – Aug. 2
Nick’s Kids was celebrating their mission today at the annual luncheon, but it was also a celebration of others who give back. The organization’s second-ever lifetime achievement award went to Mike Reilly of Randall-Reilly publishing. Mr. Reilly is being recognized for his support of the Nick’s Kids Foundation.

In December 1990, WVNN radio in the Huntsville region needed a temporary talk show host to “pinch hit” for a bit until the station’s new full-time hire arrived. The pinch-hitter was Mo Brooks, who was somewhat familiar to listeners as a state lawmaker from the area. The soon-to-arrive hire was Sean Hannity, who no one knew much about … Richard Fording, a political science professor at the University of Alabama, said the conservative media endorsements give Brooks an advantage in showing that he is “pro-Trump.” Hannity, Ingraham and others have consistently been big backers of Donald Trump’s candidacy and the early portions of his presidency.

Uhrig of Cullman inducted into Xi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi

Ashley Uhrig, wife of Casey Uhrig, of Cullman was recently inducted into the Xi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Individuals are invited to membership in this largest of education honor societies on the basis of high academic achievement, worthy ideals and evidence of leadership attributes. Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911, while Xi was established in 1922. Internationally, KDP has over 400 chapters and 57,000 members.

AICPA names 2017 doctoral scholars
