Donate Your Regalia to the Steckol Project

The commencement marshal, carrying the ceremonial mace, leads the faculty procession.

The UA Faculty Senate is seeking donations of gently used, clean academic regalia — caps, tams, hoods and robes — to enhance its regalia loan program.

The Steckol Academic Regalia Project, named in memory of the late Dr. Karen Steckol, makes regalia available for loan to faculty members on a first-come, first-served basis immediately prior to each commencement ceremony.

Steckol, who served as president of the Faculty Senate, and professor and chair of the department of communicative disorders, envisioned the loan program as a way to support faculty and encourage participation in commencement ceremonies by removing the need for cap and gown rental.

The regalia are maintained by the Senate. To donate academic regalia to the Steckol Academic Regalia Project, contact Linda Knowles at or 348-6635.
